Engaging students in math, science, and technology is one of the most important factors in creating tomorrow's workforce.
The Video Science Club at Glencliff HighSchool is a program that addresses this issue. Through hands-on activities, mentoring, presentations, and behind-the-scenes field trips, students discover the world of design and engineering. The participants are then challenged to identify a problem or opportunity and design a solution, presenting their findings in a short video. Students present their designs to their peers and community in a Science and technology fair.
The Video Science Club at Glencliff HS has 20 members and meet weekly when school is in session. Participants are typically students in grades 9-11 that have expressed an interest in the program.
The club is an initiative of Glencliff HS as an effort to promote the use of technology and prepare better professionals for the work force, therefore we will be celebrating Earth Day, April 22nd, with actvitivies that involves science and technology, students and community.
The Video Science Club has created a partnership with Nashvile Public Television and the National Park Service to organize a video contest, where students are asked to create a three-four minute video that answers the question, “What does our local national park mean to us?”
The winner will assist a Nashville Public Television team as they film Beautiful Tennessee, a documentary focusing on Tennessee’s national and state parks. This film will be aired in conjunction with the debut of Ken Burns’ new film, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea in September 2009.
